About Us

Hi dear guests! We are family Shetekauri originate from this area. Establishing Biodiversity House Tebulo was an idea of our father Shamil Shetekauri, who was a Georgian botanist, mountain guide, co-author of the book (Caucasus flora field guide) and professor at Tbilisi State University. After his death (In 2018), we, his sons (Gaga and Tolkha) continued the idea and managed to build an eco-educational house to host nature lovers, our national park visitors and eco-tourists.

Since 2004, we have been participating in botanical/hiking/wildlife tours organized by our father through the Georgian mountains. Nowadays, we continue this job with more than 20 years experience.

In 2016 we got a support grant from UNDP Small Grants Program (Europe) and from Pshav Khevsureti Protected Areas Friends Association, which was financed by the German KFW bank and its Georgian branch – GFA consulting group, under the management by Ramaz Gokhelashvili. In 2019 we got another small motivating crowdfunding support from German Naturalists organized by the association “Natura Miriquidica” from Erzgebirge (initiated by Stephan Otto und Kay Meister) to establish there a small alpine botanical garden. In 2022 we got another small grant by “Enterprise Georgia”. Many thanks and warm greetings to our donors and supporters ❤ !

Gaga and Lena, summer 2022

Currently I (Gaga) and my wife (Lena) are managing the Biodiversity House and do our best to develop the idea and make the house full functional. Last year (2023), with the help of our cousins, friends and volunteers (Germans and Georgians), we managed to finalize the main house building tasks after 8 years. For the 2024 summer, we are ready to host first visitors at our house. (Of course there is still a lot to do, while it is kind of life long project.)

We will be happy and appreciate any idea, donation, support or voluntary activities from your side for the house development. Feel free to contact us.
